Saturday Quickie

Just a short note today, on a rainy, dark, gloomy, morning. Lots of adjectives to describe these late fall days bereft of sunshine. Many of the folks I follow have those spam-foiler letter combinations in script and curves and other ingenious ways to keep the robots from crashing the party.

When I took the Blog Book Tours class last year with Dani, these final letters to be typed into your post were considered bad form. Guess with the increase in spam, folks have decided it's a necessary evil.

So...I still haven't added them to my blog, but I'm curious to find out what everyone's take is on this.

Question du jour:Do you mind typing in "nadtuern" or "gliblinks" before your comment is published on someone's blog? Do you have these critters on your own blogs?

Inquiring minds are inquiring.

  1. I posted about this last week. Nine out of ten bloggers hate word verification, but in my experience, five out of ten use it. (Fuzzy math, huh?)
The new spam filter for blogger catches 99.9% of my spam comments. So unless someone is targeting your blog with spam, I wouldn't recommend adding word verification.

  2. I'm not in favor of it. It's really annoying.

  3. I sort of like word verification, actually. :P I don't mind it much, unless I'm using a really slow browser, in which case it take a while for the page to load.

  4. I hate it. HATE IT! I comment on 50 plus blogs a day, and this takes up so much time. The pop-up box is the worst, because you have to enter your comment, wait, then enter the word verification, then wait again! And sometimes you don't even see the box unless you scroll down (I have a Netbook). I know some people do have issues with spam, but I never have and I don't use word verification.

    Rant over!

  5. Er... did you know that you do have the pop-up word verification on your blog? :) :)

  6. I don't like it. Also, I don't like the blogs where the owner has to approve before the comment is posted. I thought we learned in the class that wasn't a good idea. Now I don't know...

  9. Well, the news isn't good. The Spam blocker is now automatic with Blogger and there's no way to say no. Anybody with a way around this, please let me know.

  10. Having to type in the extra words is a tad irritating (especially if the blogger requires comment approval AS WELL.)

  11. I don't especially object to them but would prefer they go away. Now that you've found you have one, I wonder if I do!

  12. I find them a nuisance, and I'm sure I occasionally write a comment and leave the blog before I realize I have more work to do.

Wait, are you telling me I might have word verification too and didn't even know it? Gotta go check.
